I am a big fan when it comes to modifying cars and I am aware people have unique tastes so just because something doesn’t please me doesn’t signify anything in worldwide terms, however when companies like Hamann and Mansory, which are top quality enterprises, do work as depicted below it makes me wonder not only who designed the car but also who gave the go ahead for production!
The Mansory Renovatio
Starting with the positives I am happy that they worked the car so as to show carbon fiber in some parts, whilst covering it up in other parts - I think this gives a great effect if it is properly carried out. I also like their choice of rims (I think there are better choices around but compared to the rest of the car they are good). I have also heard that Mansory tweaked the engine to get 700hp with 880Nm, giving a top speed for 340km/h.
The best view of this car is from the rear
The dislikes far outweigh the likes. I think the front bumper just isn’t right for the car. This coupled with the wide carbon fiber strip down the hood makes the front look like it has been thrown together with no planning whatsoever.
I mentioned I liked the fact that they had left bare carbon fiber, it is just a huge shame that the way they have done it really does not make the car flow! Leaving the side vents unpainted makes them look out of place as there is no continuity. This vents on the SLR are too big to have left bare, without continuing it along the side of the car.
The exhaust is just way too over the top. The stock exhaust is different but incredibly well worked as it does not stick out when you view a profile picture of the car. Mansory have managed to destroy this.
Now to the roof. If you look at this car from the front it no longer looks like a sports car. The addition to the roof makes it look like the rear is shapeless.
Overall I think this is a terrible effort from Mansory!
The Hamann Volcano
This looks better than the Mansory SLR but again, as has become a recent trend with Hamann, they use a roof scoop which serves no real purpose! It seems like gone were the days when all the modifications Hamann did had performance in mind!
The spoiler just does not look right on a car of this category. If they insist on putting a wing on it they could at least do it right, and make it span the width of the car.
The front wheel arch is another part that just does not work for me!
Either way I am interested to see what Hamann do with the engine and how much power they manage to get out of that 5.5l v8.

It is not often I will say this but I’ll take it stock

My God. It’s a shame because it has potential. It seems to be that they just ran out of ideas and tried to go over the top with it.
I actually like the front end. The vents look a bit Lamborghini Gallardo’ish. I’m still undecided about the rear. There’s something missing there for me.
Now to the colour scheme. Complete total screw up. The front bumper starts off well with the carbon fiber splitter, but then it goes all wrong with the carbon fiber side vents on the bumper. Then it goes even further wrong when you hit the front fenders. It just looks like a big block of black sitting in the middle of the fender.
If it was to me, I would have at least painted the ‘diffuser’ like things on the bumper and fender in order to break up the big ‘blocks’ of black.
A and B pillars should also be paint matched to the car. The whole hood (except for the vents) should be paint matched as well.
There is a gold one about that has the hood paint matched. Looks much better.
Hey Dylan,
The car is full of potential but as you say I think they were short of ideas and seem to have rushed the final outcome.
I wouldn’t say they got the colour scheme wrong, as I am a huge fan of white cars showing unpainted carbon fiber however I think the execution in this case is terrible!
I agree with everything else you mentioned.
Thank you for sharing your point of view - I am glad I am not the only one out there who thinks they got it totally wrong
